Uvain Church Celebrates One Year of Tremendous Growth

Jul 26, 2023

In May of 2022, Pacius was preaching at La Source Gilbert, a remote church plant east of Poteau that has grown to more than 80 members. That morning, three men (one blind) walked more than two hours down a mountain to beg Pacius to come and preach to them. A few weeks later, Pacius walked about three hours up the mountain to Uvain. As you can see from the sweaty pictures below, it was not an easy climb! As always, we are very blessed to have someone like Pacius with such a servant’s heart.

Uvain is a village of about 1,000 people, and they live in a special place with more water than most of Haiti. However, there was no church, no school, no health care, and few material resources. The only way up the mountain is by walking (a patch reminiscent of climbing Pinnacle Mountain near Little Rock – in some areas, climbers have to use their hands to navigate up the rocks!). On Pacius’ second visit, five people were baptized, and a small church was gradually established. As the church grew, people wanted a better place to worship, so HCDP furnished wood and metal. During the last week of May, the church people carried the materials piece by piece up the mountain. Even a woman about 6 months pregnant carried metal roofing on her head.

The one-year anniversary of the Uvain church was celebrated on May 28 with the completion of their church building, as well as five more baptisms. Over the past year, the number of church members increased from 0 to 67. Almost 7% of that small city are now Christians. That is something that all of us can celebrate!
